Flanders Meeting and Convention Center Antwerp

ECTMIH2017 is held at the brand new Flanders Meeting and Convention Center, with the exquisite Queen Elisabeth Concert Hall at its core. It is adjacent to the Antwerp Zoo and ideally located next to the city’s Central Station, one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world. The location of this venue offers the delegates the opportunity to sample the pleasures of this wonderful city while reflecting on the future of tropical medicine and international health in an ever-changing world.

With a history that dates back from the 2nd century, Antwerp built a solid reputation as a rich and strategic city at different points in history. The city started developing an ever more modern port infrastructure in the second half of the 20th century and by the 1990s it rebranded itself as worldclass centre of avant-garde fashion and culture, competing with the biggest cities in Europe.

Next to its status as port and fashion city, it has become the world’s diamond centre, with 80% of all the world diamond trade passing through its gateways.

Lifestyle and luxury are an important part of the city’s culture. From its medieval heart, over its 19th century “South” quarter near the Institute for Tropical Medicine, to its modern shopping district, Antwerp is a city that takes care of its buildings, offering its residents a historic core with a thriving contemporary vibe. The city’s elegant streets boast delicate restaurants, fashionable boutiques, designer galleries and welcoming bars and cafés, which add to the wonderful mix of culture and pleasure.
